Rio de la Plata, 1807 - Joan Holden - This letter, dated 22nd Sept 1807, was written by Robert MacKay from Cape Town to his wife, Mardley in Inverness. At the time Mardley was living with her brother-in-law William. At the time of writing, Robert had just got back on the HMS Raisonnable from the expedition to Rio de la Plata in which Commander Sir Hugh Popham had taken the 71st Highland Regt - without any authority - to battle in Buenos Aires. They were defeated.
